Highlights from Matrix’s recent event at The University of Tokyo

On May 11th, the Matrix AI Network and bitgrit jointly hosted an event exploring “The potential of AI in Japan and China” at the University of Tokyo in Tokyo, Japan. The event featured three keynote speakers including Matrix CEO Mr. Owen Tao, Professor of Interfaculty Initiative in Information Studies and Vice Director of YRP Ubiquitous Networking Laboratory Dr. Noboru Koshizuka, and bitgrit CEO Mr. Frederick Bussler.

bitgrit CEO Mr. Frederick Bussler kicked things off by talking about the many benefits of training AI algorithms using transparent and trackable data. He also spoke of the importance of giving fair returns to programmers and data contributors. Matrix CEO Mr. Owen Tao then shared the Matrix AI Network’s vision for the future of blockchain-powered AI, and detailed Matrix’s unique HPoW consensus mechanism. Mr. Tao revealed that Matrix’s long-term goal is to improve and strengthen the feasibility of distributed artificial intelligence by improving basic blockchain technology. Mr. Tao also mentioned that over the coming months and years, Matrix will continue to invest in and research big data, AI algorithms and models, distributed computing and more.

Rounding out the speaking portion of the event was a lecture by the esteemed University of Tokyo Professor Dr. Noboru Koshizuka. Dr. Koshizuka spoke of his vision for smart cities fully optimized for the digital transformation of society. Dr. Koshizuka, who is also the Vice Director of the YRP Ubiquitous Networking Laboratory hopes to contribute to achievements in various fields of industry and social innovation by utilizing data — often referred to as “oil” in the contract of Information Studies. Dr. Koshizuka and the YRP Ubiquitous Networking Laboratory specialize in using machine learning, deep learning and other data science techniques to comprehensively analyze big data obtained using IoT technology, open data databases and industrial big data.

Following the individual speeches, both Matrix CEO Mr. Owen Tao and bitgrit CEO Mr. Frederick Bussler answered questions about their partnership. The two CEOs indicated that the most important element to the partnership was a shared vision for the future — that both believed in the complementary advantages of AI, big data and blockchain, as well as in the importance of democratizing access to AI. They also reiterated the current scope of the partnership — Matrix will provide bitgrit with high quality data and inexpensive computing power while bitgrit will provide Matrix with access to their large team of excellent data scientists and collection of advanced AI models. Moving forward, both bitgrit and the Matrix AI Network will jointly develop a platform to protect the rights and interests of AI model owners, creators, users and data contributors.

Matrix AI Network leverages the latest AI technology to deliver on the promise of blockchain.
