What to expect over the coming months.
2018 — another year gone by. Some friends were made, others lost. Though this year has had its share of ups and downs, the Matrix Team has remained steadfast in one goal above all else: leveraging artificial intelligence to deliver on the promises of blockchain. With the beginning of the new year, the next chapter in the Matrix journey begins. As such, a few updates are in order.
First, the bad news. Rather than rushing the mainnet out the door, the Matrix Team has decided to delay the launch of the mainnet until February. Truth be told, the core development of the mainnet is complete. However, more testing — specifically user testing — is needed. Delaying the mainnet until February will give the team sufficient time to iron out a few lingering issues rather than trying to resolve them on the fly with a live mainnet. While we understand this is disappointing, please note that this will not impact the previously announced plan to open mining and verification tasks to the public at large in early March.
The good news is that this extra time will allow the team to take a breath and polish some UI and usability features. While much of this work can certainly be accomplished internally, other tasks require the support and participation of the community. Below is a general roadmap of what to expect in the coming months.
The Matrix Team will begin inviting select community members to set up mining and verification nodes. The primary purpose of this activity will be to collect feedback and suggestions on how to design and improve the UI and usability. In its current state, setting up a mining or verification node requires a certain comfort level with computers. The hope is to streamline the process of setting up nodes.

The Matrix Team will launch the mainnet and continue to implement UI and usability improvements. Of course, this will be an ongoing process. Depending on the volume of suggestions, more community members may be invited to participate as mining and verification nodes.
Token swapping will also officially begin. As a reminder, there is currently no deadline to complete the token swap.
Mainnet mining and verification activities will be open to the public. The Matrix Team will also open public access to the Matrix blockchain explorer and publish formal documentation about how to set up nodes.
We understand that this is not the end-of-the-year news that the Matrix community has been waiting for. For that, we sincerely apologize. Rest assured that we have been and will continue to work diligently to deliver on our lofty goals. We are nothing if not ambitious. Thank you for your patience, understanding and support. Please reach out with any questions and concerns….Back to work!
